I’m Maygan Coats!
I’m the breeder behind Lone Willow Chesapeakes in Winneconne, WI. My goal is to raise Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that are sound, versatile, and well-prepared to shine both as family companions and hardworking partners in the field.
A little bit more about me.
I’ve been around animals for as long as I can remember, helping my family raise and breed different dogs and horses while growing up. That experience taught me early on the joy of caring for animals and the importance of raising them the right way.
I met my first Chesapeake Bay Retriever in 2011 when I met my husband, and I instantly fell in love with the breed. Their loyalty, intelligence, and drive won me over, and I knew they were the perfect fit for our lifestyle. Today, our Chessies are not only my hunting partners, but also part of our family.
When I’m not working with the dogs, you can usually find me outdoors with my husband and our horses, enjoying the simple things in life that first sparked my passion for animals. For me, breeding isn’t just about producing puppies—it’s about carrying forward the traits that make Chessies such incredible companions and partners.
How did I get into breeding?
I was raised around the breeding of both dogs and horses, and from an early age I developed a deep appreciation for the care, responsibility, and joy that comes with bringing new life into the world. When we welcomed our Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Mack, into our family, breeding was not initially in our plans. However, as he matured, it became clear that he exemplified the breed standard with his outstanding temperament and talent. Recognizing these qualities, we felt a strong responsibility to preserve and pass them on.
What makes our breeding program special?
Our breeding program is built on the foundation of producing Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that are both versatile and well-adjusted. From the very start, we emphasize early socialization—exposing our puppies to a variety of environments, sounds, and experiences that prepare them for an easy transition into their new homes.
The result is well-rounded dogs that embody the true spirit of the breed: loyal family companions with the intelligence and drive to excel in the field. Whether relaxing at home or working alongside their owners, our puppies are bred and raised to thrive in every aspect of life.
